Story
Make May Purple is the Stroke Association's fundraising and awareness campaign held during Stroke Awareness Month in May.
Every day another 240 people will face the life-changing impact of a stroke. Mums, dads, grandparents, young people, and even children can be left unable to move, see, speak or even swallow. It's a traumatic, life-changing event that robs survivors and their families of the life they knew.
On 11th February, our lives changed in an instant when my grandad suffered a stroke.
Since then, he has been in hospital, facing a long and challenging road to recovery. It’s been an incredibly difficult time for us all, watching someone so fit, active, and full of life suddenly unable to do the things he loves. But if there’s one thing we know about him, it’s that he is strong, determined, and a true fighter.
My grandad means the absolute world to me. Anyone who knows us will know how close we are, and how much my Nana and Grandad mean to me. Seeing him go through this has been heartbreaking, but we are so grateful that he is still with us and continuing to fight every single day.
To honour him, and to support Stroke Awareness Month in May, I’ll be taking on the challenge of walking Roseberry Topping on Sunday 24th May with the help of friends and family joining me.
This may seem small, but it represents so much. Just a few months ago, my grandad would have taken on something like this without a second thought — whether it was walking miles, kayaking, or cycling, he was always on the go and doing it better than the rest of us!
I’m raising money to support stroke awareness and help others going through similar experiences. Every donation, no matter how big or small, even as little as £2 can make such a meaningful difference and will mean so much to us all.
Thank you so much for your support — it truly means everything to me and my family ❤️
