Story

Welcome to our JustGiving page for the Cardiff Half Marathon 2024!

As some of you know Scoliosis Awareness is something close to our hearts. In 2016, Ellie was diagnosed with scoliosis and it is something we believe needs more recognition in today’s society. Scoliosis is the abnormal and twisting curvature of the spine which effects around 2-3% of the worlds population.

2024 marks the 7th anniversary of Ellie’s first major spinal surgery to fit 2 titanium rods and 24 screws down the length of her spine. Before surgery Ellie was told (at the age of 14) that there was a possibility she may never be able to walk again, so to be able to sit here and say she is going to be running the Cardiff Half Marathon makes us both extremely proud of everything she has faced and overcome.

Living with chronic pain and looking 'normal' in everyday life has its challenges and has left her at times feeling very lost and isolated. The more support and awareness we can get out there for people living with this hidden illnesses, the easier it will become for people in similar situations like Ellie, to feel recognised in today’s society.

A few words from Ellie….
“In the last 7 years I have had some amazing people who have helped support me on my journey of living with Scoliosis and now it is my turn to give back to the Scoliosis community and raise awareness for such an important cause.

I am so thankful to every single person who has helped me in the last 7 years to get me to where I am today, Sophie especially. She has always been by my side, supporting me every step of the way. To be running the half marathon in Cardiff with her by my side is just amazing”

Thank you to every single one of you who is here reading our page. It means the absolute world to us that you are here helping us support such an amazing charity, one that has not only helped Ellie in her recovery but is positively changing the lives of everyone living with Scoliosis today.

Thank you

Ellie & Sophie xx
