50 mile run · 18 October 2024

Over 150,000 of us in the UK have MS. It’s unpredictable and different for everyone. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We’re the MS Society. We understand what life’s like with MS. We're here for you through the highs, lows and everything in between. Together, we are strong enough to stop MS.

Story

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page. Any donations, big or small, would be greatly appreciated.

I have challenged myself to run 50 miles (October 18th) from Blackpool to Widnes, to raise awareness and funds for the MS Society. This cause is close to my heart as it supports my close friend Vic, who was diagnosed with MS shortly after giving birth to her amazing son, Thomas James.

“Vic’s Story”

In May 2023, just after the arrival of her baby boy, Vic was diagnosed with rapidly evolving severe Multiple Sclerosis.

Towards the end of her pregnancy, Vic lost feeling in her feet, legs, and stomach. She was told this was normal due to the stretching of the skin. These symptoms continued after birth, affecting basic tasks, but again, Vic was told this was normal post-birth. When she temporarily lost sight in one eye, it immediately raised concerns and Vic got the medical attention she deserved, which led to her diagnosis.

This devastating news came as a profound shock to her and her family, casting uncertainty over how this could impact her in the long term.

Vic and her family/friends are immensely grateful for the support and knowledge provided by charities like the MS Society during this challenging time. While there is currently no cure for MS, there are drug therapies that can help manage the condition which she currently receives. We remain hopeful and positive that a cure will be discovered one day.

Our goal is to raise awareness about MS and generate funds to support the incredible work of the MS Society.

I couldn’t undertake this challenge without the support of my fiancé, family, and friends. A special mention goes to my good friend John. We’ve spent hours planning the route, endured 50-mile bike rides, and found suitable check-in points to keep this challenge safe. John will be checking in every 10 miles to give me the motivation I’ll need to keep going!

Thank you for your support!
