Story
I was diagnosed with a very aggressive acute myeloid leukemia in December 2019. Since then I’ve had two stem cell transplants (STC) with the help of Anthony Nolan. The first in July 2022 was from my sister who lives on the other side of the world in the peak of covid lockdown. AN ensured her cells got to me safely. I then received another STC from an unrelated donor a year ago from USA. As a consequence of my transplants and chemotherapy I’ve had severe GVHD and developed avascular necrosis of both my hips and had a double hip replacement 6 months ago. I’ve had multiple long hospital admissions many without visitors due to isolation. During these past few years I’ve kept going physically and mentally by exercising with the Peloton bike and classes. In my hospital room I always had a bike and took weights and exercise mat with me. When I was in a wheelchair I would ride on a floor bike and do boxing and weight classes. The Peloton community (especially U.K. Peloton Ladies and my Power Zone team The Vixens) have kept my spirits up and motivated.
It is now a year since my second transplant and I’m so grateful to Anthony Nolan that I’m so well. On my transplant birthday I will be stacking all the classes from the day I received those life saving cells from all the Peloton studios across the world and hoping my fellow Peloton team mates will be joining me. This will be an intense marathon boot camp with cycling and strength training lasting 4 hours continuously. I never dreamed I’d be able to do this last year!
I'm fundraising to help save the lives of people with blood cancer. I hope you’ll sponsor me.
WITHOUT YOU THERE IS NO CURE
For someone with blood cancer, a stem cell transplant could be their last chance of survival.
You could fund the search for a matching donor who could give that person a second chance of life.
Anthony Nolan is the charity that connects people with blood cancer with lifesaving stem cell donors. Were saving lives right now. But we cant do it without you.
