Story
This weekend, Katy, Tom and Elly are going to be completing the 3 peak challenge to raise funds for those who need welfare and rehabilitation following a laryngectomy operation.
Our Dad, Steve Bishop, had this operation age 51, which completely removed his larynx (voice box) meaning he lost his voice. Dad was given 5 years to live and knew he had to learn new ways to breathe, speak and swallow. Over the years Dad learnt to do that using a hole in his throat...sounding very much like a robot! He couldn't smell, taste or laugh out loud.
Dad was incredibly social, loved a party and this was taken away from him as he couldn't speak quickly or loudly.
Dad went on to smash the 5 years, although was diagnosed with leukemia and 18 years later died.
This weekend would have been Dad's 75th birthday and we want to celebrate that by raising money for others who go through the trauma of a laryngectomy, and their families. If you have any spare pennies we would love people to donate HERE and help us get up those damn mountains.
