Story
Hello!
Thank you for reading about my story. I am running my very first half marathon to raise money for Arts for Dementia! I have only recently begun my journey of running, completing my very first 10k in January.. I always thought I would never be able to run a half but my best friend convinced me I could, so what better cause and motivation than to raise money for an incredible charity that works for a cause very close to my heart.
Dementia has affected people in my life and robbed them of so much. Although treatments, research and cures are essential so is their living quality. It is so often the case that as soon as someone receives a diagnosis of dementia that the person becomes marginalised from society, often no longer being included in groups they used to. There is a lack of support and groups to engage individuals in the community, enrich their lives and aim to have people remain with meaningful connections. Arts for Dementia aims to help all people with early-stage dementia live better for longer at home, through the stimulation and joy of challenging arts engagement, that enables them and their caregivers to remain active and engaged in the community.
Arts for Dementia also provide dementia awareness around the benefits of arts for those affected by dementia, as well as those who work with them. They also work with decision-makers and signpost to dementia friendly art activities throughout the UK.
Supporting Arts for Dementia creates the opportunity for better life quality for those affected by Dementia right now. Please support my campaign and help me raise £500 for this amazing charity.
The photo on my page is of my very first run after over 10 years of not running! My best friend is the reason I am back into running and doing the half marathon. She is running her own race and we will be virtually helping each other through training.
