The past year has flown by and we can’t believe we are celebrating Elouan’s 1st birthday!

To say that Elouan arrived a little earlier than expected is a bit of an understatement, he was born 10 weeks early. Elouan wasn’t growing due to the placental dysfunction and was the size of a 26 week old baby. Born at just 2lb 5oz - our 1kg “bag of sugar” baby. We were lucky though, because other than being small, thankfully, he was in relatively good health. With lots of growing to do and monitoring his heart, Elouan spent 60 days in NICU and was discharged a week before his due date in November. It’s important to remember that Cots for Tots and the NHS are incredible and we are so fortunate to have them - without this care Elouan is unlikely to have survived.

The NICU nurses are incredible, they cared for Elouan 24/7 but also supported us trying to navigate parenthood in the confines of hospital. From nappy changes in an incubator to tube-feeding our baby boy, they taught us everything we needed to know to care for Elouan. They were our shoulders to cry on and rays of sunshine during long days next to his cot. We can’t thank them enough for everything they have done for all of us.
