Story
About Us: We created the Eltham Stoma Support Group because we realized there was a lack of local support for ostomates in our area. Since October, we have been hosting a coffee morning on the last Friday of every month. Our mission is fueled by a deep, personal understanding of the journey.
Between us, we have seen the impact of stoma surgery from many angles—through years of professional caregiving, supporting family members through cancer diagnoses, and standing by friends during sudden, life-changing medical emergencies. These experiences taught us that while the surgery is life-saving, the emotional recovery requires a community that truly "gets it."
Our goal is to ensure that anyone going through stoma surgery—or those supporting a loved one—had a safe, comfortable environment to meet in person and chat.
I am so glad we started this journey. The group is truly amazing, and seeing our members grow in confidence, find the courage to leave the house, and connect with people who truly understand is remarkable.
This April, we are "Stepping Up" for Colostomy UK!
55 stoma surgeries are performed every single day in the UK.
Our members will be getting active—whether it's walking 5,500 steps, doing 55 minutes of activity, or even 55 minutes of meditation.
By doing this we are helping raise awareness for hidden disabilities. Having a stoma isn't always visible, but the strength of our community certainly is!
Your donations help Colostomy UK provide 24/7 support to the ostomy community. Thank you for supporting the Eltham Stoma Support Group and helping us show that life doesn't stop after surgery!
