Story
Team AMLA® is running the Bournemouth Half Marathon, the Bournemouth Supersonic 10 km and the Junior 2K to raise emergency funds to build a desperately needed well at the DASH Dogs Rescue Shelter in Greece.
During the long, hot summer months, the DASH Dogs water supply often runs out. Katerina is then forced to buy emergency water supplies to keep the dogs and puppies alive.
Building a well at the DASH Dogs shelter will ensure that all the dogs have a reliable and plentiful fresh water supply. It will also enable the DASH Dogs volunteers to keep the shelter clean.
Every step by Team AMLA® brings all the DASH Dogs, animals and volunteers closer to a safe, reliable water supply.
Please support Team AMLA® as we do our best to help the animals at the DASH Dogs Rescue Shelter and the volunteers who work there. Thank you.
Saving Lives at DASH Dogs
The DASH Dogs Rescue Shelter is the largest, licensed dog shelter in Greece. The charity is run entirely by volunteers and is totally dependent on donations and sponsorship.
Led by founder Katerina, the DASH Dogs team cares around the clock for hundreds and hundreds of abused, homeless, starving, sick, injured and elderly dogs as well as many abandoned puppies. Many would not survive without Katerina's care and determination.
The team are called out daily to make life-saving rescues of desperate dogs who have been hit by cars, locked up, starved, shot or abused.
The shelter is overcrowded and Katerina often has to make the difficult decision of whether to buy food or medicine for the dogs. Resources are extremely limited and conditions are challenging. During the long, hot summer months, we often run out of water and need to buy in emergency supplies.
No animal is ever turned away from DASH and the shelter is also home to a DASH donkey, many DASH cats and a growing number of DASH chickens.
DASH stands for 'Dream of A Safe Haven' and it is the team's mission to provide safety for any dog (or donkey, cat or chicken) in need.
Katerina lives on site and cares for the DASH animals throughout the day and night with her team of dedicated volunteers. They provide desperately needed love, care, comfort, water, food, shelter, medicine and veterinary treatments to save as many lives as they can.
Picking up poo also features highly on the volunteers' list of essential tasks!
The DASH Dogs Rescue Shelter is located in the Peloponnese region of Greece where temperatures soar in the summer and plummet in the winter, providing harsh conditions for any dog on the street and also for the volunteers working at the shelter.
DASH Dogs is registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales with charity number 1185749.
