Emilie's Half-Marathon Fundraiser for Rainbow Home

EMF Half Marathon 2025 · 25 May 2025 ·
I've admittedly left this a bit late, but in the current context of backlash to LGBTQI+ and refugee rights, I felt it was a important for me to use my half-marathon effort to some raise much-needed money.
I've chosen to fundraise for Rainbow Home, a charity you may not have heard of, but one that does essential & worthy work in the North East with LGBTQI+ refugees seeking to settle in the UK. Rainbow Home is a small, local organisation that provides services to help with asylum applications, with emotional & psychological support, as well as practical guidance & advice on housing, healthcare & employment.
There is a real environment of fear around being queer right now, especially for people who live where it is illegal to live openly as they are. We only need to look at recent rulings in the UK, Uganda, or Trinidad & Tobago to understand that this reality is only worsening. So I would like to run this half-marathon knowing that I am supporting the valuable efforts of those trying to make LGBTQI+ refugees feel welcome, connected & safe.
After 8 years of trying, my amazing sister Mollie eventually convinced me to join her in a half-marathon effort. So, Mol and I are running on the 25 May in Edinburgh! After 5 months of training the race is just around the corner, & I am still wondering how I'm going to finish. But, the progress from being a 5k-er to racking up the kms in the final stretch has really given me a great lesson in discipline, commitment & physical injury-management!
To help raise funds, I also promise to commit to adding a pound to the fundraising total for every second under my target time (1 hour 56 mins)! I would really appreciate anything you can donate to help power me over the finish line & to make a difference to a small organisation in a constricted funding environment.
