Story
In March 2026, I am running the Brentwood Half Marathon to support Saint Francis Hospice. I will be running in memory of both of my Grandads. They were both a huge part of my childhood. In losing both of them, I learned how charities like Saint Francis Hospice make the darkest of times that little bit brighter.
In December 2023, my Grandad was put on palliative care. Within the space of 24 hours, our living room was turned into a hospital room. Our sofa was replaced with a hospital bed, our dining room became a storage place for oxygen tanks and medicines. The house became filled with a dark, sadness of what we knew was inevitable.
Looking back on this period of time, the people who I remember most were the Saint Francis Hospice nurses. I think of the saying “not all hero’s wear capes” and the Saint Francis nurses prove exactly that. They became our support in a time we needed most. And I will never forget what they did for us during that time.
This is why I chose to run the Brentwood Half Marathon for Saint Francis Hospice. I would love to give back to the nurses, who gave so much to me and my family. I would be so so grateful for any donations big or small to show the appreciation of the incredible work the SFH team do. Thank you!
