My February Run Challenge

Emily Cane is raising money for Breakthrough T1D

February Run Challenge · 1 February 2026 to 28 February 2026 · Start fundraising for this event

Run, jog or walk 50km or 100km throughout February and help fund vital research towards a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D).

Story

This February I'm taking on Breakthrough T1D's Run Challenge, running 100km over the course of the month to support their vital research and community support. Every kilometre run and £ raised through this challenge is a tribute to the resilience of those who have been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and hopefully a step closer to a cure.

This cause means a lot to me. Nearly 3 years ago my son Harry was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 6. The diagnosis came out of the blue and since 2023 we have learnt a lot about the endless hypos, midnight alarms and the need for carb calculations. Harry has taken the injections, regular canula changes and blood sugar finger prick checks in his stride, but at times it feels relentless. Breakthrough T1 have provided extensive support and Rufus (see below) has been much loved ever since he was given to Harry in hospital following his diagnosis.

Thank you for your support; whatever you donate is really appreciated. Together, we can help to cure type 1 diabetes!

More Information:

Every £11 could help a recently diagnosed child no longer feel alone with the T1D. They now have a fluffy best friend called Rufus who also has type 1 diabetes, and special felt patches on his test and injection sites to help children practice on.

Every £25 raised could pay for an hour of research nurse support for someone involved in a clinical trial, which could ultimately lead to the next big breakthrough. Without this support there would be no trial.

PS for any doubters out there Harry is tracking every KM I run (!) and Strava should update to this page.
