I'm taking part in Unique's 3 billion steps challenge by running my first ever parkrun...in wellies!

First ever parkrun...in wellies! · 27 June 2026

We're raising £34,000 - to represent the 34,000 member families that Unique supports - to help us continue our work supporting families around the world affected by rare chromosome and gene disorders.

Story

Hello, I'm Emily and I'm very happy to be part of the Unique team. Unique is an open, supportive community for people who are looking to learn, share lived experiences and connect with others whose life has been touched by rare chromosome or gene disorders. We are here to support and celebrate people living truly unique lives.

I'm supporting our mission to raise £34,000 for Rare Chromo Day 2026 by running my first ever 5K parkrun in wellies! I have been training for parkrun for a few weeks with Sandhurst Joggers, but so far always in trainers. With just two weeks to go, I haven't yet trained in my wellies! But I am inspired by the amazing Laura Stenton-Slator, who ran the London Marathon in wellies for Unique, and our wonderful Community Contacts Coordinator Jude who is running every parkrun in June in wellies, and am feeling up for the challenge!
