Story

When I selected the charity to benefit from my fundraising it was a no-brainer, Child Bereavement UK. What a valuable service for families to lean on in their most desperate and unimaginable time of their lives; as well as the training to professionals to appropriately prepare them to provide the best care to bereaved families.

I would be absolutely delighted if you spared a few pounds to contribute to their ongoing work, each small donation will make a difference to someone in their time of need.

When I was just 7 years old, my mother had to receive and immediately share the ultimate shocking news to my younger brother and I that we had lost our father to a tragic accident. In life, we all experience everything so uniquely, and children interpret and process things completely differently to adults. Although, my family didn't benefit from Child Bereavement UK, we did have a charity who supported us. This particular charity gave us, as children, the space to be around other bereaved children who just got it, we had fun, played games and went on adventures. A breathing space for just a couple weeks a year to be with our people, no awkward conversations, no inappropriate responses, we just knew we were alongside our own people. I later became a volunteer play leader as soon as I was old enough. Unfortunately, this service no longer runs.

Child Bereavement UK help children and young people (up to age 25), parents, and families, to rebuild their lives when a child grieves or when a child dies or is dying. Child Bereavement UK also provide training to professionals, equipping them to provide the best possible care to bereaved families. £30 funds a call to a helpline for bereaved parents, teachers, doctors and midwives. £60 provides an online support session for a bereaved young person, and the list goes on.

My 25k walk in the Peak District on 28th June 2025 feels quite insignificant to the work this charity conducts, but if it can make a difference, I'm game! I'll be training in much flatter countryside, so 25k will feel much further given the energy mile it will take. I feel humbled to think of the contacts I have, who have completed unimaginable iron mans, or taken daily cold showers during the month of January, but this UltraChallange is pushing my current capabilities with my current life demands!

My deceased father was very generous with his fundraising efforts (particularly for children), in his short 36 years of life. I do contribute to local events benefitting local children, but feel the drive to add to my fundraising portfolio!

THANK YOU for whatever you are able to donate, I am truly humbled by your contribution.
