Our Story
Our beautiful boy, Micah, surprised us with an early entry into the world at 31weeks. He required Neonatal care at Arrowe Park Hospital for a total of 5 weeks before we finally got to bring him home.
Throughout what seemed to be a textbook pregnancy, we could have never foreseen that we'd find ourselves torn between being with our newborn in hospital and being with our 3 year old daughter at home. My husband and I hadn't known anything of the provision that the Ronald McDonald House at Arrowe Park offered to Neonatal families, so when a room came available for us and our daughter to stay in, we were overwhelmed and so grateful that such a facility existed.
Having the room at "the hospital home" (so named, fondly, by our 3 year old) was a life saver. We were able to maintain a fairly normal routine for her; meals together, bedtimes and preschool runs, while remaining close to our new baby as he received the vital care he needed. We felt, and still feel, so blessed and grateful for the space and community it gave us during a very difficult time for us as a family.
As we approach Micah's first birthday, we feel compelled to raise money and give back for the support we received during his earliest days. The love we were shown by the staff in RMH didn't go unnoticed, and without this provision it's possible we wouldn't have been able to cope with the strains, stresses and logistics of caring for both of our children throughout those long and difficult 5 weeks.
Event Details
In order to raise money for RMHC, we are holding an Afternoon Tea and Promise auction. Our guests will be treated to a delicious, freshly prepared Afternoon Tea, and the opportunity to bid for a Promise.
The promises will range from things like 'an hour of gardening help', 'walking your dog for a week', to offers from larger businesses and organisations too. The winning bidder will receive the Promise (within a given timescale) and the money that they bid will go towards the fundraising total.
We hope to be able to raise at least £500 so that, on behalf of everyone who attends and donates towards the event, we can add a plaque to the Giving Tree in the entrance hall of the RMH at Arrowe Park and show that we are fully behind the hard work they put in to help families like ours who need them at such a challenging time.
In addition to this, over a period of time, we'd love to be able raise enough money to sponsor one of the 7 rooms available at Arrowe Park for the families to stay in. For a full year, it costs the charity around £5000 to offer one room to the families that need it, and so it would be incredible to raise such a sum of money to support them as they do this vital work.
Even though tickets for the Afternoon Tea are now sold out, you can still donate towards our fundraising efforts and help us to reach our £500 target. Whatever amount you can give will be greatly appreciated!
Charity Background

Our Houses offer much more than just a place to stay; they provide family activities, peer support, respite, and many other services. This means that families can be by their child’s bedside in a matter of moments, whilst maintaining a degree of normal life with reduced emotional and financial strain.
We help over 6,000 families each year and now, more than ever, we need your support. Thank you.
