Story
During my pre-season break from the football season I have decided to run 31 miles in the 31 days of July to maintain my fitness ready for the new footballing season!
Dementia caring is an organisation/respite in which my grandpa uses. My grandpa was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2015.
What is dementia caring?
Dementia caring is a non-profit organisation seeking to provide affordable day care support specifically for people with dementia and respite for their caregivers in the Lichfield, Tamworth and surrounding areas. It is an organisation that is supported by NHS Midlands Partnership being the NHS Foundation trust.
What do they do?
Their main aim is to help those with dementia to be able to live well and continue doing the things that they enjoy!
They do many activities with them, mainly on a one to one basis, some of these activities include:
- Exercise
- Arts and crafts
- Music and Dance
- Reminiscing
- Games
All of which will be undertaken in a safe and caring environment!
NHS UK Stats:
‘Over 1 in 14 people over the age of 65 have dementia. The number of people with dementia is increasing because people are living longer. It is estimated that by 2025, the number of people with dementia in the UK will be more than 1 million’
Thank you!
