I completed the Lakeland 50 in 2019 with my running buddies. At the time we raised money for The Brain Tumour Charity. We raised funds for this charity after hearing of the news that our lovely running friend Nicola Nuttall’s daughter Laura had been diagnosed in October 2018 with a Grade 4 Brain Cancer; Glioblastoma at just 18 years old.

Her family investigated many additional treatments and raised funds for Laura to have immunotherapy in Germany. Laura did so many amazing things despite this diagnosis, and her determination to keep going is unforgettable. Unfortunately Laura died in May 2023, she fought her battle but did not loose. She has left a legacy where the fight continues against this devastating illness.

Her wonderful family have now set up The Be More Laura foundation. After entering the ballet for the lakeland 50 2024 and then getting a place it felt fitting to raise funds and awareness for this new foundation.

Since my last attempt I’ve run the odd 5k and 10k and spent many hours in the gym, so I’m not unfit but I’m fair from ultra fit. This attempt is going to be so much harder than last time, most days I wonder if I will finish it BUT I can guarantee unless I’m totally ruined from the training I will start and give it a good try.

During the process I hope to raise money and awareness of The Be More Laura Foundation and hopefully this will help families have treatment options and hope after such a devastating diagnosis.
