Story
Running for my Granda ❤️
In April 2027, I’ll be taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon as part of Team ARUK, running in memory of my Granda and raising money for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Dementia has had a huge personal impact on my family. At the end of 2014, my Granda went into hospital for what should have been a straightforward operation. Following an anaesthetic, he developed an aggressive form of dementia. I was only 14 at the time, and it was incredibly difficult watching someone I loved change so rapidly.
Within just six months, he went from being completely independent to being bedridden and unable to recognise the people around him. He sadly passed away in June 2015.
Having experienced first-hand the devastating impact dementia can have on both the person living with it and their family, this is a cause that means a huge amount to me. I want to use this challenge to remember my Granda, raise awareness and help support research into dementia.
Even more special, my Mum is also running the London Landmarks Half Marathon as part of Team ARUK, so we’ll be taking on the challenge together. ❤️ Being able to run alongside her, in memory of my Granda, makes this even more meaningful.
I’m aiming to raise as much as I can for Alzheimer’s Research UK, supporting their vital work towards better understanding dementia and finding ways to prevent, diagnose and ultimately treat it.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will mean so much to me and will help me get one step closer to my fundraising goal.
Thank you for supporting me, and for helping me run in memory of my Granda. ❤️
