Skydive Day September 2024 · 21 September 2024 to 22 September 2024 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

On the 21st September I will be skydiving to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society.

As some of you will know, I have recently lost my beautiful Nan to Alzheimer’s. My Nan, Sandie, was such a brave, kind and funny lady. My Nan was diagnosed at 71 and suffered with the disease for just over 3 years. Watching her suffer with the terrible disease Alzheimer’s was heartbreaking to watch. After sharing my Nan’s story with others, it has become clear how many other families have been affected by this disease.

Watching someone you love go through Alzheimer’s is so painful, you lose a small part of them each day and you are constantly grieving- which is why it’s referred to as the long goodbye.

Nevertheless, the long goodbye still didn’t feel long enough and I wish I had more time with her.

Watching someone go through Alzheimer’s, you feel so helpless which is why I have decided to do a skydive to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. To say that I have done something even when it doesn’t feel enough.

There are currently estimated to be 982,000 people with dementia in the UK. This number is expected to rise to 1.4 million by 2040. Dementia is the UK's biggest health and social care crisis.

Alzheimer’s Society work towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. They do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future.

If you can donate anything, I would be so grateful. Thank you so much for supporting my family and others that have been affected by Alzheimer’s.
