Emily's fundraiser for Carers Support West Sussex

Brighton Half Marathon 2025 · 2 March 2025 ·
Carers Support West Sussex walks alongside unpaid carers through the life-changing period of caring for a loved one, enabling them to improve their quality of life and to be more able to look after their own health and wellbeing.
Who a carer is, what they do and the difference they make – as well as the impact caring can have on a carer’s own wellbeing – is often misunderstood by employers, the community, the business sector, health, and social care colleagues and even the carer themselves. Carers can be of any age, even children. People may need to care for an elderly parent, a spouse, a child with additional needs or a friend. And the reason a loved one needs care can include dementia, disability, mental health and more.
There are over 29,000 unpaid carers registered with CSWS. CSWS helps carers access information, guidance, and support; running Support Groups, a Carer Helpline, helping carers access equipment to assist them in their caring role and providing funds so that carers can do something for themselves.
“I never expected to be in the situation I'm today. I was extremely worried, stressed and felt like my husband and I were in an invisible cage and no matter how loud we scream no one can hear us. However, when I was contacted by CSWS, it was a Blessing. EVERY SINGLE PERSON was so ready and happy to help. They made me feel that I'm surrounded and not alone anymore. They make me feel so confident and strong and proud of what I have been doing before knowing them. They listen, comfort, encourage, praise, advice and truly help. I do not know what I would have done without knowing CSWS.” – Carer
Unpaid carers in England and Wales contribute a staggering £445 million to the economy every day – that’s £162 billion per year.
The value of unpaid care is equivalent to a second NHS in England and Wales.
