Story
As an all year round sea swimmer I understand the dangers of the sea so SwimTayka was the obvious choice of charity to support for this challenge.
On a personal note our attempt to cross the channel is proving to be quite the challenge but one I am determined to prepare for and give everything to.
Open water swimming has given me confidence, resilience and a new found determination with the backing of a wonderfully strong and supportive like minded tribe so if I can do this then just know anyone can do anything.
Drowning is a silent epidemic that claims an estimated 360,000 lives every year, many of them children.
Drowning is the 3rd leading cause of unintentional injury death worldwide. These are wasted lives and preventable deaths. SwimTayka's mission is to give disadvantaged communities around the world access to swimming teachers who can not only provide the life skills of swimming but create a legacy for today's children, who will grow up to teach the next generation.
Ever since our very first project took place in Huanchaco, Peru, we have received great feedback from volunteers and the locals who are involved in the projects. Each aspect of our programmes has proven valuable to the volunteers and local children. A past volunteer of our Peru project stated:
"In the three weeks, I spent with Bryan, Quique and the children, I saw huge improvements in confidence and ability. I am sure with the extra time, and funding Bryan and they have, the results will be remarkable!"
