Story
Human rights are designed to be invisible. We don’t think about having the freedom to express our own opinions, or walking outside without a head covering. But for many around the world, these routine freedoms are often threatened.
For people like Layla, human rights are something which must be fought for. As a filmmaker from Iran, Layla wanted to raise awareness of women’s rights and conditions in Iranian prisons through her documentaries. This open reporting led to Layla being imprisoned for three years in the very same prisons she reported on – cramped, dirty and overcrowded spaces.
Without the support of Prisoners of Conscience (PoC), people like Layla might be unable to continue fighting for their, and in turn our, human rights. A grant from PoC enabled Layla to continue her vital work in a neighbouring country.
This April, I will be running 100km for PoC - the distance some prisoners of conscience will have to travel to seek refuge and safety. Please support me as I raise money for human rights champions like Layla this month. Find out more here: https://prisonersofconscience.org/rightsrealitycheck/ Thank you!
