Story
We have been supporting Havens for many years and wanted to do something 'sporty' together.
Havens do incredible work supporting families and individuals with care during the difficult times we all hope we will never have to face. They provide support for people of all ages for end of life care, respite care, mental health support at their facilties in Essex. We have always found their work inspiring and know just how important their support is for those who are in need.
Individually we have both been working out for many years, and this seemed a fitting event. We originally planned to run together, crossing the line hand in hand.
However, there is a slight problem, Emma is a very good runner having completed several half marathons in very good times for her age, with a finish in the Dartford half, first in her category.
Glenn is not a very good runner, having spent the past two years training for 500m sprint races on a rowing machine and competing, combined with the fact that he is a lot older than Emma (he will be 65 when he competes and is too polite to tell you how young Emma is!!).
The impact of this is that we will each run our own race, Emma is targeting 4hrs or better, Glenn anywhere between 4-5hrs so we can each do our best in what will probably our only marathon (unless of course we really enjoy the day!).
