We support survivors of rape & sexual abuse to overcome trauma & rebuild their lives

Story

RASASC Guildford are an inclusive charity that supports survivors of all genders over the age of 13 from across Surrey, who have been raped, sexually abused or have had an unwanted sexual experience.

We offer support through our confidential helpline, counselling and Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) services. All our services are free and non-judgemental, and survivors of sexual abuse are believed, empowered and supported on their journey to recovery.

About my running journey…

1) Have you ever done any running before and/or taken on a half marathon?

I have never been a runner however my family started doing Parkruns last year so I started joining them. I initially struggled to run the whole thing without walking - my first Parkrun was in January 2023 and it took me 37 minutes! Since agreeing to do the half marathon, I have really picked up my running, and my quickest Parkrun time so far was 28.5 mins.

2) How is training going, do you feel ready for the big day?

Training has been up and down due to an ongoing knee injury. I’ve really had to pick up strength training in the gym to try and counteract a misalignment in my right leg. This has unfortunately meant I haven’t been able to train to the intensity I would have liked.

3) Do you have a plan for the day or a time you would like to achieve?

As I haven’t been able to train as much as I’d hoped, my main goal is to complete it without walking for a significant chunk. I’m hoping to do it in under 2 1/2 hours however I’m not too worried about the time.

4) Why did you decide to run for RASASC?

RASASC is an amazing charity who provides much needed support to victims of sexual crimes. The legal system in the UK has a long way to go with crimes such as these and charities such as RASASC are integral in helping victims by providing guidance and mental health support.

5) Will you have anyone supporting you on the day?

I’m running with my best friend, Jess, and I’m sure we’ll both have our families and friends there supporting, with a glass of bubbles once we cross the finish line.
