Story
In June I will be taking on the Lake District Ultra Challenge Full Continuous 100km to raise money for Foal Farm. This will be a huge challenge, totally pushing me out of my comfort zone. I will be walking by myself, through day and night, taking on a distance 6x anything I have done before.
Foal Farm truly holds a special place in my heart having previously worked on the dog team full time. I feel honoured to have been involved in the amazing, life-changing work that this charity does. I understand first-hand the physical, emotional and financial toll this work takes on a small charity and its dedicated workforce.
Three years ago I adopted my own dog, Lily, from Foal as a boisterous pup who had proven too much for her previous owners. About 18 months later we also welcomed Lenny, my parent’s dog, who came in at a fragile 24 hours old in need of hand-rearing and round the clock care after being rejected by his mother. In between, we have offered our home to a number of foster dogs, old and young, who needed a safe refuge whilst awaiting their forever homes. All fully supported by Foal, who offer life long back up for every animal that they rehome.
My love for hiking has developed since, and because of, adopting my beloved Lily, so it seemed suiting to turn this personal challenge to walk a continuous 100km into a fundraising opportunity for such a special charity that truly means so much to me.💚
