Emma's Golden Triangle Virtual Triathlon

Emma Bowyer is raising money for NewDawn India

Golden Traingle Triathlon · 1 August 2025

t is estimated that there are 30,000 children living rough on the streets or in the slums of the city of Madurai in Tamil Nadu, South India. They survive by rag picking, begging and scavenging in sewers which run right past their homes. The caste system keeps these families in poverty. NewDawn India exists to provide support for the Vidiyal Programme, run by Dr. Jim Jesudoss, his wife Dr. Sharmila and their dedicated team, which works towards the relief of poverty in the Madurai slums. ‘Vidiyal’ means a new dawn or new beginning, and new hope.

Story

NewDawn India is changing the lives of children and young people from disadvantaged communities in Madurai. They exist to provide support for the Vidiyal Programme, run by Dr. Jim Jesudoss, his wife Dr. Sharmila and their dedicated team, which works towards the relief of poverty in the Madurai slums. ‘Vidiyal’ means a new dawn or new beginning, and new hope.

I am going to be sticking to the ratio of an Olympic triathlon so will be swimming 23km, cycling 590km and running (with maybe some walking when it gets tough) 153km.

The Golden Triangle is 766.6km so I shall round up the odd meters.

I shall be 'leaving Delhi' on August 1st and returning on August 31st. This is a virtual triathlon with the swimming being done in a local pool, the cycling on an exercise bike and the running on a treadmill!

I will be visiting the famous sites along the way.

The young people from the Art Forum have produced some stunning art work that I have transferred to t shirts.

I will post updates each day and there will be more information on our website I will post the updated map....

Thanks for your support.
