Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity and for those who know me well, a cause which is very close to my heart. Having lost my Granny earlier this year after a long battle with dementia, it’s something I am passionate about, as well as doing all I can to publicise and promote! My Granny was fortunate enough to be one of the runners to complete the very first London marathon back in 1981, so I hope it’s a suitably fitting tribute.

Altzeimers Research UK is working incredibly hard to revolutionise the way in which dementia is diagnosed, treated and eventually cured. Dementia was the leading cause of death (11.3%) across the UK in 2022, however research suggests that 40% of dementia cases can in fact be prevented. Dementia is also the only major cause of death without any form of preventative treatment. It is sadly predicted that by 2030 the number of people with dementia will rise to over 1.1 million.

Dementia is sadly a horrible, debilitating disease which has impacted not only my closest family, but many friends too. I sincerely hope to not only raise awareness, but also help fundraise towards much needed medical research and eventually finding a vital cure.
