Rhona Ann Lunny (nee Tredwell) was the eldest of two children, born in Reading, Berkshire, England, on 15th September 1946. She was always close to her late brother, Michael ("Mick") and his wife Kate.

Rhona battled with Alzheimer's Dementia for nearly 20 years. It has been an incredibly hard and emotional journey for her family, to watch her slowly deteriorate. We would like to remember Rhona as she was before she became ill: Kind, fun-loving, caring and absolutely devoted to her family

Rhona was bright and excelled at school. Despite passing the Eleven Plus entrance exam for the local Grammar school, Rhona had to leave school at 15 to help care for her parents. Her Dad was partially sighted and her Mum needed help to care for him.

Rhona was a gifted dancer and enjoyed amateur dramatics. She won several dancing competitions in her youth. She was also a competent seamstress, and made a lot of her own clothes. She was a also great cook, and Emma remembers baking with her mum from a very young age.

Rhona met her husband, Austin, at a Dance in Reading in 1966. He had recently left from the Army due to contracting TB. It was love at first sight, and they married in June 1968.

Rhona held various secretarial jobs before joining Lloyds bank in Thatcham, near Reading. She enjoyed chatting with the locals when they came in for their banking and became a very popular bank employee.

Rhona is remembered with love by her husband, Austin of 58 years, her two children: Justin and Emma; and her Grandchildren: Sam, Jake, Vhari-Grae and Campbell.

Alzheimer’s Society is working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.

They do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future.
