Story
On Saturday 4th July, dedicated staff members from Withernsea High School will take on The Ullswater Way.
The Ullswater Way is a spectacular 20 to 22-mile walking route that circumnavigates Ullswater in the Lake District.
Withernsea High School is a small School on the coast, with a strong sense of community. There will be 18 people taking part in our event. These range across the leadership team, teaching assistants, the admin team and our teaching staff, who are all looking forward to raising funds for a charity close to so many of our hearts.
Similar to many other communities, individuals across our establishment have been/are facing battles, where additional support and resources from Macmillan have been priceless. We are grateful for the high-quality support available through this charity, and to give back to others facing their own battles.
A staff member in receipt of Macmillan support has said:
“We will beat this together”- a quote that stays with me. One of the first things I remember hearing after being given my diagnosis. You hear the words you have cancer, and a numb feeling comes over you and the room feels silent, people are talking at you but you don’t hear what they are saying. That’s when all I heard was my Macmillan nurse Claire telling me we had this, we will beat this together. I knew from that point on I would be supported through the journey I was about to face, whatever that may be.
From investigations, diagnosis, scans, treatments, surgeries, recurrence diagnosis and aftercare along with ongoing treatment,
Macmillan have been there every step of the way. They truly go above and beyond their roles, supporting me and my family through it all, either in person or on the end of the phone to answer any questions or worries we had. They have been a pillar of strength and support and I am eternally grateful to them and all who have got me to where I am today.
Two years ago i had the support of 15 colleagues who signed up to run the Hull 10K with me, students from the schools running club also took part in their own 10k to help raise further funds for this amazing charity.
Last year I had the support of 20 colleagues, as we took on the challenge of the Yorkshire Three Peaks- helping to raise £1390 for Macmillan.
This year, there will be 18 of us taking on the Ullswater Way hike. The end goal/dream is to eventually have raised enough funds to have paid for one Macmillan nurse for a year.”
Thanks for supporting my fundraising. The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, and every one of them needs the best support to meet their unique needs.
That's why Macmillan will do whatever it takes to help everyone living with cancer across the UK get the support they need right now and transform cancer care for everyone who will be diagnosed in the future.
