incredibile ma vero il 23 giugno mi vedrete partecipare all'evento di Collective Aid dove con il mio team cammineremo 65km (okay forse un po' utopico come obiettivo per le mie gambe ma vedremo quel che si può fare ;)) !

come molti di voi sapranno questo è già il terzo anno che torno a lavorare a Calais per Collective Aid. un'esperienza di amore e odio in quanto amo il mio lavoro ma il contesto in cui mi trovo mi fa provare non poca rabbia.

in un contesto in cui la dignità delle persone non è mai una priorità e tanti si ritrovano a vivere in tende sparse in diversi posti della città, con Collective Aid abbiamo aperto un centro in cui le persone possono lavare i propri vestiti, usare il bagno, riposarsi, prendere un tè, un caffè, usare il Wi-Fi e caricare il proprio cellulare. solo nel primo anno di apertura (2023) abbiamo accolto 2138 persone e lavato i vestiti di 1364.

con il tempo abbiamo iniziato anche delle attività in collaborazione con altre organizzazioni:

Kaleidoscope, che organizza workshop e attività per adolescenti;

Medici senza frontiere, che ha una clinica mobile dotata di assistente sociale, infermiere, psicologo e mediatori culturali;

FAST, che offre un servizio di primo soccorso;

Refugee Legal support, che offre tutte le informazioni necessarie per fare richiesta d’asilo in Inghilterra.

oltre a tutto ciò, ogni giorno distribuiamo tende, sacchi a pelo e coperte, unica possibilità che le persone hanno di dormire “al coperto”. nel 2023 abbiamo distribuito 2760 tende.

purtroppo in questo contesto le attività portate avanti dalla mia organizzazione, e quelle di molte altre, non hanno alcun supporto da parte delle istituzioni. di recente, il comune di Calais ha forzatamente chiuso il nostro centro e al momento sta facendo di tutto per dilatare i tempi della riapertura utilizzando la burocrazia come espediente. ciononostante noi continuiamo ad offrire al meglio i nostri servizi e al momento abbiamo un servizio di lavanderia mobile che permette alle persone di continuare a poter lavare i propri vestiti nell’attesa della riapertura.

questo è solo uno dei tanti esempi che fanno capire come Collective Aid non abbia alcun finanziamento da parte delle istituzioni, il 100% dei nostri fondi arriva da donazioni private.

per questo motivo, per il secondo anno consecutivo, lanciamo questo evento di raccolta fondi in cui, insieme al mio team, cammineremo 65km. questo perché, nonostante sia una distanza esagerata da fare in un giorno, 65km sono gli stessi coperti da recinzioni e filo spinato qui a Calais, posizionato in modo da rendere la vita di chi vive senza un’abitazione fissa, sempre più difficile.

intanto vi lascio qualche foto delle attività che facciamo e della camminata dell’anno scorso, poi il 23 vi aggiornerò su Instagram e Facebook rispetto a come procede !

unbelievable but true on June 23 you will see me participating in the Collective Aid event where with my team I will walk 65km (okay maybe a bit utopian as a goal for my legs but we will see what can be done ;)) !

as many of you know this is already the third year that I am going back to work in Calais for Collective Aid. a love/hate experience as I love my job but the context in which I find myself makes me feel no small amount of anger.

in a context where people's dignity is never a priority and so many people find themselves living in tents scattered in different places in the city, with Collective Aid we opened a center where people can wash their clothes, use the bathroom, rest, have tea, coffee, use Wi-Fi and charge their phones. in the first year of opening (2023) alone we welcomed 2138 people and washed the clothes of 1364.

over time we also started activities in collaboration with other organizations:

Kaleidoscope, which organizes workshops and activities for teenagers;

Doctors Without Borders, which has a mobile clinic equipped with a social worker, nurse, psychologist and cultural mediators;

FAST, which offers a first aid service;

Refugee Legal support, which offers all the information needed to apply for asylum in England.

in addition to all this, every day we distribute tents, sleeping bags and blankets, the only chance people have to sleep "indoor" in 2023 we distributed 2760 tents.

unfortunately, in this context, the activities carried out by my organization, and those of many others, have no support from the institutions. recently, the municipality of Calais has forcibly closed our center and is currently doing everything to extend the time for the reopening using bureaucracy as an expedient. nevertheless, we continue to offer our services to the best of our ability and we currently have a mobile laundry service that allows people to continue to be able to wash their clothes while waiting for the reopening.

this is just one of many examples that make it clear that Collective Aid has no funding from institutions; 100 percent of our funding comes from private donations.

for this reason, for the second year in a row, we are launching this fundraising event in which, together with my team, we will walk 65km. this is because, although it is an exaggerated distance to do in one day, 65km are the same covered by fences and barbed wire here in Calais, positioned in such a way as to make the lives of those living without a fixed accommodation, more and more difficult.
