Story
Hello! I am excited to share that I will be running on behalf of CL Medilaw in the London Marathon on April 27, 2025, to support The Rainbow Centre For Conductive Education Ltd.
This incredible charity provides vital services to children with Cerebral Palsy, neurological disorders, acquired head injuries and with developmental delay; as well as key services for adults with neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, stroke or acquired head injuries.
For children and their families, the Rainbow Centre provides access to highly trained and specialised professionals to help children develop their mobility, motor, sensory, communication, emotional and self-help skills using Conductive Education. For adults and their families, the Rainbow Centre helps an individual take back some control and increase their quality of life so that the individual, and not their condition, are in charge.
I am so proud, though also equally terrified, to be running the London Marathon. Most of you who know me even a little, know that I'm not a runner! It's not my thing and I'm much more at home in the water and the colder the better. But I've loved the training (mostly) and everything that being part of such an iconic race brings.
My inspiration is my late dad who ran in the second London Marathon in 1982. I remember it very well, his training in the cold and rainy months, and then on race day (years before any 'tracking' was even a thought, of course) my mum, my sister and I racing around London and spotting him 4 times! (Along with Peter Duncan from Blue Peter in his green and white kit, for those of you old enough to remember that!) My dad's race and all that went with it is a 'core' memory for me and I shall be thinking of him as I tread the streets of London, knowing he would also be so proud of me. [Photo in gallery.]
Being involved has brought so much positivity and fun: from the training runs with friends, the unwavering support of my entire family, my daughter curating my running play list, my mini-coach (my 10 year old son) spurring me on, and my wonderful colleagues listening and supporting Hayley Woolf (who is also running) and I discussing all things training, shoes, nutrition and injury prevention on a daily basis! I am so lucky to work with such a great team and to have the opportunity to run for The Rainbow Centre and to support their vital work.
I would be so grateful if you are able to donate to help me achieve my £1,500 goal, and I thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
