Story
Hi everyone,
I’m excited to announce that in October 2025, I will be skydiving over Mount Everest to raise funds for Cockermouth Mountain Rescue UK a charity close to my heart that saves lives in our beautiful mountains and remote terrains.
**Why am I doing this?**
Mountain Rescue UK’s volunteer teams work tirelessly, risking their lives to help hikers, climbers, and outdoor enthusiasts in emergencies. Their bravery and dedication are truly inspiring, and they rely heavily on donations to keep their life-saving work going.
**A personal connection:**
My cousin Alan is a volunteer with Mountain Rescue UK. Seeing his commitment first hand has inspired me even more to support this vital service.
**How can you help?**
Your support will make a real difference! Every penny raised will go directly to Mountain Rescue UK to help fund rescue missions, equipment, and training.
The team responsible for rescuing people and animals from the Buttermere, Ennerdale, Lorton and Loweswater valley areas of the Lake District, and in north west Cumbria:
- Available 365 days a year, 24 hours a day
- Volunteers spending 1500 hours per year on rescues
- A registered charity solely funded by voluntary contributions
- Annual operating costs of £100,000
**Please consider donating** — no amount is too small. Together, we can ensure that when someone is in trouble in the mountains, there’s a team ready to save them.
Thank you so much for your support and encouragement. Let’s make this skydiving event a huge success for a truly deserving cause!
With gratitude,
John Newcombe
