Story

If you knew my Dad prior to his Alzheimer’s taking hold of him then you would know what a fantastic person he was. Dad is only 63 and was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s in 2020 when he was just 58.

I’ve never been a runner & before January the furthest I had run was 1k. I started with my wonderful supportive friends and became determined to do something to honour my Dad. I know he would be proud he would be of me deciding to do something so out of my comfort zone.

Although Dad is still physically with us, mentally he is not. Alzheimer’s has cruelly taken away so much from Dad - and from us as a family. Dads’ needs are now complex and the stress that it has put on our family is immense due to a broken social care system. Soph is joining me to run the Manchester Half Marathon on 12th October to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society who fund research into the disease and finding a cure. The Alzheimer’s Society also campaigns to push the government to address issues in care homes that those suffering with Alzheimer’s, along with their families, are experiencing. Nobody should have to experience this horrendous disease and all that comes with it. I hope that the money we raise can either help to support a family like ours, or, help to prevent a family being affected by Alzheimer’s in the future.

A small donation or a like/share would be hugely appreciated. Thank you ❤️

Love you Dad ❤️
