Emma's fundraiser for Love, Jasmine

We are kindly asking family & friends for donations in tribute to our beautiful baby daughter Emilia.
Throughout my pregnancy, scans showed that our baby had a blockage in her bowel and would need surgery when she was born. Emilia was born one month early on the 21st May 2023 and was transferred to a local children’s hospital where they discovered the bowel blockage was not as originally suspected. She had a rarer type of atresia, but still operable with a good outlook. Our brave little girl had her first surgery when she was two days old and was given temporary stomas for bowel recovery. We were told we may be able to go home in two weeks and feed her through her stoma. She had some steps forward and back during her recovery but overall was doing well, gaining weight and having increased tube feeds. We waited for news each day regarding her progress and of her next surgery. Tragically, on the 2nd July 2023, at just 6 weeks old, our baby girl passed away suddenly and very traumatically after symptoms of sepsis were missed. Our brave girl fought so hard but due to errors in her care, it was too late. Our world fell apart.
Emilia was beautiful, strong, independent, funny and extremely cute. She was very observant and made herself known by her wonderful, loud and unique cry. We laughed, cried, feared and smiled throughout her life living in the hospital, but we made so many beautiful memories. We loved cleaning and caring for her each day, giving her her first bath, feeding her tiny amounts of my expressed milk, painting her tiny toes for printing, watching disney films and singing her songs, reading stories, snuggling for hours despite the many wires and machines, cheering on her weight gain and progress each day, adoring her squeak after every yawn, celebrating Father’s Day, introducing her to family and friends, and many more treasured moments. We quickly learnt that she hated being undressed and weighed, the whole ward knew when it was that time as Emilia made it known! She was soon soothed by her infamous purple dummy that she adored and sucked on all day long. We cheered on her progress each day and were amazed by the strength she had. Emilia gifted us with so much love and joy. She made us so proud and is our little hero.
Without the charity Love, Jasmine I don’t know how I would get through each day after the trauma we endured. The charity provided support very quickly after Emilia’s passing, in comparison to the 6-8 month wait we were offered by the hospital. I received, and still receive, support in many different ways from Love, Jasmine such as 1:1 counselling, peer group support and self-care services. I have received continued support through ‘pregnancy after loss’ and recently welcomed Emilia’s beautiful little sister into the world. Love, Jasmine has provided a safe space to talk openly and honestly about my grief. The counselling service helped me to process the trauma and overwhelming emotions whilst supporting me in adjusting to life after loss.
Fundraising for Love, Jasmine means more bereaved parents will be able to receive the same vital support that I have received. Their hard work and commitment to improving services after their own tragic loss has helped so many families in the Merseyside area.
