Story
Rowan and Ryan
Rare but Real
Ryan and Rowan share more than just living on the same village lane in Addingham.
In March 2023 Rowan, then 17, was diagnosed with primary cardiac angio sarcoma, an extremely rare and aggressive heart cancer. Against all prognosis, and after undergoing a range of treatments (there is no set proven pathway for such rare sarcoma), Rowan successfully had his tumour removed in November 2023.
This year, in March, Ryan, 32 was diagnosed with Epithelioid sarcoma, an equally rare and aggressive soft tissue cancer. Ryan has already undergone surgery and is now just finishing an intense course of radiotherapy.
They share the same grit and determination in their mindset and determination to carry on as normal and are now joining forces to raise money for SarcomaUK, the national charity that funds vital research, offers support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer and campaigns for better treatments. It is the only cancer charity in the UK focusing on all types of sarcoma.
As an ex marine, Ryan is calling upon ex colleagues so that he and Rowan can create a two team stretcher race, taking turns to carry village friends on a stretcher to the top of Beamsley Beacon and back. Starting and finishing opposite their home lane at The Fleece, Addingham. This will be just under 10km, reaching 1300ft.
Please support them and their mission by donating. Alternatively, or in addition to, come and cheer with on and make a donation on the day.
Muscle, mind and heart. Let’s make a difference to make the invisible visible and raise funds for SarcomaUK.
