Genetic haemochromatosis (GH) can affect as many as 1 in 10 people in regions of the UK with an estimated 1.2million people at risk of serious ill health. We carry out pioneering research, increase public awareness, provide education to GPs & nurses and support families

Story

Our Team, Quines oot for a Dander, are fundraising for Haemochromatosis Uk as our family is affected by this genetic disorder.

Haemochromatosis is a genetic disorder which causes too much iron to build up in the body and if left untreated can cause complications including diabetes, cancer, heart & liver disease.

It is often called the 'Celtic Curse' as it is common in the North East of Scotland but often goes undiagnosed as not many people are aware of it, including some Doctors. It can easily be diagnosed with a blood test.

This disorder directly affects my family as my Dad, brother and other members of my family have it.I have also recently being testing to see if a carry the gene. Luckily, this has been something as a family we are able to find early as my Granny also had it which prompted testing and steps can be taken to lower the iron in the body.

We hope our fundraising will raise awareness of the disorder and go to assist families affected by it.

Your support is greatly appreciated.
