Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have set myself the challenge of participating in the Brighton & Hove Triathlon in memory of Becky and to help raise important funds for Mind.

- 1 in 4 people will experience some kind of mental health related problem, whether that is anxiety, depression or personality disorder;

- 1 in 5 people will suffer from suicidal thoughts;

- 1 in 14 people will self-harm; and

- 1 in 15 people attempt suicide.

However, only 1 in 3 people seek treatment for mental health related problems, with 2 million people waiting up to 12 weeks for mental health support.

Mind provides vital resources and support to help anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve mental health services, raise awareness and promote understanding. Between 2022 - 2023 Mind responded to 130,973 queries through their helplines and their mental health information was accessed over 23.3 million times.

I am raising money for Mind so they can continue and expand on their extraordinary work to fight for better services and support so anyone experiencing a mental health problem can get the help they need.

The motivation to take up this challenge and raise money for Mind comes after the sudden loss of Becky, who sadly could no longer fight her demons. Becky was always the life and soul of the party, highlighting that mental health problems can be well hidden.

Mental health needs to be taken as seriously as physical health and until this is the norm there will always be people battling their inner demons in secret.

Taking up this challenge is a positive way to channel the grief and raise vital funds to help people keep fighting their battles.
