Springboard is a local charity based in Chippenham that supports pre-school children with special needs and their families. Their motto is ‘maximising ability, minimising disability’.

Every year they need to raise £130,000 to remain operational and as a small charity they are dependent on vital fundraising.

On 16th March 2025 I will be running the Bath Half Marathon to fundraise for Springboard.

Jack's story

When Jack was about 6 months old we started to notice that things weren't quite right as he wasn't meeting his developmental milestones. Our concerns were realised when Jack was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition and Global Development Delay.

We were extremely fortunate to find Springboard who welcomed Jack with open arms. Jack now attends Springboard twice a week and thrives there. Springboard provides Jack and many other children with special needs the opportunity to learn, explore and have fun with their friends - exactly what they should be doing at this stage of life but simply couldn't without Springboard.

Jack’s development has come on leaps and bounds. He’s gone from being unable to sit up by himself to scooting around independently in his walker. Jack is not yet talking but he is finding his voice and learning to communicate his wants and needs.

His progress is all thanks to the incredible and dedicated staff at Springboard. They provide all the typical pre-school fun activities alongside individual specialist care such as physiotherapy and cognitive learning cleverly hidden as exciting games. Through their expertise Springboard is helping to build the foundations for the children's lives ahead.

Springboard has been vital to us as a family, from ensuring all the right supporting therapies are in place for Jack to looking ahead and planning for when Jack starts school.

It's hard to justify in words the impact Springboard has had on Jack and our family. They have been a beacon of hope from day one and continue to be so.

For me personally, during the really hard days their guidance, compassion and empathy has without doubt been a blessing on my own wellbeing.
