Story

In a nutshell: I’m running the Vitality London 10K on the 28th September for women and girls and I’d love your support! 🙏🏽

My mum Bhavna used to say, when you set your sights on something there’s no stopping you. Don’t listen to the gremlins that say you can’t - she’d urge me. Get out there and show them what you’ve got!

She knew how to boost the spirits and brighten the innate light in everyone she met. Maybe you were one of those people.

I have a feeling she knew how to do this because she’d needed to learn to build, and rebuild, her own confidence. Coming to the UK from Uganda via India as a young girl, without speaking much English, I often think about her remarkable journey. About how many lives, not only mine, she went on to touch through her vivacious spirit, that could give you a fiery pep talk and have you in fits of giggles in the same breath. She was a hug of a mother, a beloved friend, and a leader who enabled people to flourish. It’s been eight years since she died from a brain tumour. Her imprints of love live on.

Inspired by Mum, and to hopefully support other women and girls on their journeys, I’m running the Vitality London 10K for The Baytree Centre; a brilliant local charity in South London. Every year, Baytree supports over 1,000 women and girls to grow in confidence, build skills, and thrive. It’s such a positive place. I’ve volunteered with them over the years and have seen how their programmes give girls brighter futures.

As you might know, I don’t exactly find running easy! But I’m learning to find joy in it and my goal is to keep going, to not stop until the end.

And when it gets tough, I’ll picture Mum on the sidelines cheering 'go for it girl!'

Thank you so much for your support 🧡

Love, Emma xxx
