Samworth Charity Challenge, EPC's The Provenders · 18 May 2024

Cancer support Salisbury supports anyone affected by cancer in Salisbury and the surrounding area, including their family, carers, relatives and friends, by providing twice weekly social drop-ins, in a safe, friendly non-medical environment alongside complementary therapies, counselling, and yoga.

Story

EPC are raising money for this worthy charity as part of our participation in the Samworth Charity Challenge! The reason behind the charity we are supporting:

‘In March 2023 Martin’s wife Tamzin was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. This really did come out of the blue. A diagnosis that, at a fit and healthy 40, really was a shock. What followed was a lumpectomy and lymph node clearance, a long wait to see Oncology, the offer of a medical trial and the subsequent news that she didn’t need Chemotherapy. Tamzin did have to have 4 weeks of Radiotherapy and is now on Tamoxifen (hormone therapy) for the next 5 years.

A shining light in amongst this time was discovering a local charity, Cancer Support Salisbury. This charity has provided Tamzin with a great source of comfort on some of her difficult days. They run drop in sessions in the week where as well as being a social gathering, they also have holistic therapists and counsellors available for both Cancer patients and their families. The Charity is run by a small and dedicated team of volunteers, funded by coffee mornings, a market stall once a month and whatever other fundraising is put on by local communities.’
