Story
Throughout January and February, the team at Enigma will be brushing off those winter blues by keeping active with our WINTER TEAM CHALLENGE! The challenge is to reach a goal of 400 hours combined activity time. Activities include running, cycling, walking, hiking, climbing, swimming, gym workouts, football, tag rugby, Pilates, yoga and anything else that gets us moving!
We are doing this in memory of our dear colleague Ian "Birty" Birtwistle, and to raise awareness and money for a charity that was close to Birty's heart, and is our nominated charity for 2025, Children's Cancer North. Please help us raise lots of cash for this amazing cause!

Enigma’s Charity 2025
Throughout 2025 Enigma staff will be raising money for Children’s Cancer North (CCN). CCN is a local charity with a simple mission; they are dedicated to making life better for children with cancer. The main objectives of the Children's Cancer North are to:
- Invest in revolutionary research and pioneering treatments, building regional and global excellence in response to children’s cancer
- Provide support for children and their families, offering hope and kind sentiment, but also real relief to make a tangible difference to them in the moment, and in the future
- Raise awareness of children's cancer, raising more funds, and focusing funding where it is needed most, and is most effective – with a commitment to keep moving and improving
Since 1979 CCN has supported children with cancer across the North East and Cumbria. The charity was founded by a group of families from the North of England who had first-hand experience of caring for their own children through diagnosis and treatment, and they’re still going strong. In their words: “We’re inspired every day by the strength, energy and spirit of the children and families undergoing treatment right here in the North.”
We chose CCN for a few reasons:
- We love what Children’s Cancer North stands for, their mission and their remit
- It’s a local, independent charity supporting children and their families in the North East and Cumbria
- As a relatively small charity, they need all the support they can get
- It was a charity very close to our colleague Ian ("Birty") Birtwistle’s heart; he suffered childhood cancer himself, and dedicated much of his life to raising awareness and funds for CCN
