Story

Supporting the Perinatal Trust Fund NI

At the start of April 2024, our family faced a moment we will never forget. My brother‑in‑law Liam and his wife Jenny welcomed their baby, Eolann, into the world. What started out as the happiest day of their lives, within hours everything changed. Eolann became critically unwell, and the situation deteriorated so quickly that he had to be blue lighted to Belfast for specialist care. Those early hours were filled with fear, shock, and the unbearable thought that we might lose him before he had even begun his life.

Thanks to the incredible expertise and compassion of the teams supported by the Perinatal Trust Fund NI, Eolann was stabilised and given the fighting chance he desperately needed. Their dedication, skill, and kindness carried our family through the darkest moments we’ve ever experienced. Today, almost a year on, it’s hard to believe how far Eolann has come — full of life, personality, and possibility. We will never forget what was done for him.

As a family, we want to give something back. The Perinatal Trust Fund NI plays a vital role in supporting neonatal and perinatal services across Northern Ireland, ensuring staff have the equipment, training, and resources they need to help families just like ours. Many others will face the same terrifying uncertainty we once did, and we want to help make sure they receive the same life‑saving support.

To do my part, I’ve signed up for the Belfast Marathon. Thirteen years after running my first marathon, I’ve decided to take on another 26.2 miles. I know there will be tough moments, especially when I inevitably hit the wall around mile 22 but knowing that every pound raised is going to such an important cause will keep me pushing forward.

I am raising funds to support the Perinatal Trust Fund NI and the incredible teams who work tirelessly every single day. Every donation, no matter the size, will help other babies and families who find themselves in the same frightening situation Liam & Jenny once did.

Thank you for taking the time to read this story, and thank you for any support you can give. Your generosity will help ensure more families get the same chance Liam & Jenny did,

the chance to bring their little ones home.
