Eoin's 25 Milly Miles - fundraiser for The Magic of Milly

25 Milly Miles · 1 May 2025 to 31 May 2025 ·
(fundraising to help provide world-class support to families with seriously ill children.):
With just over a week to go, I am just over 8 miles away from my revised target of running 75 miles in May for the #25millymiles challenge. Everyone’s amazing generosity has also led to smashing through the revised target of £500; the total now sits at £570!
My foot was feeling a little dodgy last Sunday, but improved this week. So if I hit the 75-mile mark before the weekend, I’m tempted to raise the target to running 100 miles before the end of May, for one last push to see if we can get that fundraising even higher and hit a new target of £750! It would be amazing if we could do this together; it would make such a difference to this great cause.
Over the past 3 weeks, I’ve completed 107.13 miles overall from climbing a few mountains and hiking 40.19 miles, and I have ran 66.94 miles… mostly with the hairy one for company, or on the treadmill.
Sorry if I haven’t thanked everyone directly. Some people have donated but only left their first name, or have done so anonymously, so I can’t quite tell who everyone is.

I have increased my fundraising target to £500 by the end of May.
I have also increased my running target to 75 miles by the end of May!
I will be attempting to run at least 25 miles (Hopefully more) in May for the Magic of Milly!
The Magic of Milly is a fantastic charity, run by some amazing people in memory of a wonderful little girl. So far, Emma (Milly's mum) and her team have done an amazing job raising £220,000 for Birmingham Children's Hospital and child bereavement services.
In May of 2024, I fractured my foot. After initial recovery, it refractured in August. Due to the nature of the fracture and its position in my foot, it has taken until now (12 months later) for me to feel somewhat comfortable running on it again (with some trepidation and paranoia of how it will hold up), albeit slower, off the pace of where I was, and being way more out of shape.
It just so happened that the '25 Milly Miles Challenge' coincided with my recovery. It is the perfect opportunity to motivate me to keep running, (despite having lost so much ground... I get really tired running short distances again haha) as I have a personal connection to the story, it is raising money for a fantastic cause that I believe in which will provide real support for families with seriously ill children.
Milly was born in March 2013, at 37 weeks gestation weighing 4lb 13oz. Prior to her birth, complications were detected, but she did not receive a diagnosis until she was twelve weeks old. Milly had a very rare congenital condition.
Sadly, following heart surgery in early 2015, Milly suffered numerous post-operative complications and died the night before her second birthday. This was a very sad occasion as Milly was a vivacious, happy little girl, but this mountain was just too high for her to climb.
“Her smile was infectious and her heart was warming”
Magic of Milly is supported by the family, friends, and many generous people who were touched by Milly during her short but very brave life. We have come together as a group to raise money and awareness in her memory for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, to help support the dedicated teams of doctors, nurses and support staff who provide world class care to children like Milly.
Our key aims to raise awareness of the specialist teams at BCH and promote the fantastic work of these exceptional professionals. Over the years , we have organised lots of events, including Strictly for Milly in 2017 and 2022, Rainbow Balls in 2016 and 2023, sporting events and last year, the brilliant Milly Fest – Festival in 2024!
Raising an amazing £220,000 so far
