Story

About Jay's Walk to Pride

In June, I will be walking 100 miles in memory of my incredible friend Jay, while raising funds for Mind Burton and District and their LGBTQIA+ projects, helping raise awareness of the mental health support available for the LGBTQIA+ community in the local area.

This challenge, called Jay’s Walk to Pride, will end on 27th June with a special community walk from Barton Marina to Shobnall Leisure Complex for Burton Pride. I would love for people to join me for the final walk to Pride, sharing memories, stories, and celebrating Jay together.

Jay was known and loved by so many people. He was the life of the party, the first one on the dance floor, and the loudest voice singing, often louder than the music itself. Jay was there for so many important moments in my life and somehow even forgave me for stealing his thunder by having a baby the day before his birthday!

This walk is about more than fundraising. It is about love, remembrance, community, and making sure people know that support is available when they need it most. I want Jay to see just how loved he is and how deeply he touched all of our lives.

Any donation, no matter how small, would mean so much. Thank you for supporting both this cause and Jay’s memory.

Thanks- Susie

About Burton & District Mind

Burton & District Mind support people with mental health problems across East Staffs, Lichfield District and Tamworth Borough. We acheive this through expert counselling and coaching services, and coproduced projects linking mental health to sports, nature and hobbies to connect people and build their confidence, whilst learning new skills to help their wellbeing.

People who identify as LGBTQIA+ are also more likely to have depression and anxiety. They are also less likely to ask for help. This has to change!

Over the last two years, Burton & District Mind have become allies and have done even more to help, including achieving Queerify accreditation, supporting Burton Pride in their first year, and securing funding for 5 projects. Funds raised will enable us to continue this momentum and help even more people.
