Created via charity sign up service.TLS provides dinghy sailing for people with a disability, supervised by experienced sailors. We use specially designed dinghies accessed via a wheelchair accessible pontoon fitted with hoists. Sailors can just enjoy the experience, help to sail or learn to sail.

Story

Eric was the driving force behind the creation of Testwood Lakes Sailability. He developed the idea in the early 2000s from his experience as Chair of New Forest Sailability in Ringwood. The charity was created in 2013 with Eric as Chair along with five others. His single aim was to enable people with disabilities to sail on the lake. There were several obstacles put in the way, but his determination to succeed resulted in him finding solutions. Finally, in September 2016 the pontoon was in place and the operation started with a small team of volunteers together with some customers.

Testwood Lakes Sailability will begin its eighth full season of operation in April this year in a very healthy state. The number of sails provided in 2017 was 458, which has increased to 1,217 sails in 2023.

The funds collected in Eric's memory will help Testwood Lakes Sailability continue to provide dinghy sailing for people with disabilities.
