Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page which we have setup in lieu of flowers to help raise money for the incredible people that work at St Gemma's Hospice.
Eric Lapsley our dad, and much loved husband of our mum Susan passed away on Friday 25th August at St Gemma's Hospice.
His funeral service is arranged for Friday 15th September, 3:15pm at Lawnswood Crematorium.
He had a shock cancer diagnosis when they (my parents) came to visit from Portugal earlier this year. The doctors gave him only six months life expectancy with the help of chemo. Between my parents they decided that if he got too poorly to stay at home they would need the help from some caring people; St Gemma's were those people!
When the heart-breaking decision came, St Gemma's were so quick to put a plan into action. The care and commitment to their patients is outstanding. As soon as dad arrived they couldn't do enough for, not just my dad, us as a family. The staff all introduced themselves and the compassion was endless.
What they do for patients and families alike is commendable. Our mum did not leave the hospice for the final four days and nights and their kindness extended to ensuring she was looked after too.
The grant St Gemma's receives from the NHS covers only 31% of the income needed to run their Hospice services each year. With donations from people like yourselves it helps give the staff at St Gemma's the resources to provide excellent end of life care to those in need.
Thank you for any donations,
Susan, Gemma and Kathryn xxx
