In April, I will be running the London Marathon for a charity close to my heart. I’m running to raise funds for Galgos del Sol, a charity based in Spain that has made an incredible difference in the lives of abandoned hunting dogs. These dogs, often mistreated and discarded when they are no longer useful for hunting, face a life of hardship and neglect. Galgos del Sol works tirelessly to rescue them, giving them the care, love, and second chances they deserve.

After my mum, sister, and I volunteered with Galgos del Sol for a short time, we were inspired by the incredible work they do. It was during this experience that we decided to adopt one of the dogs we had met there. Her name is Twig, and she quickly became a much-loved member of our family. Watching her transition from a frightened, abandoned hunting dog into a confident and loving girl has been truly heartwarming. Her journey with us is a powerful reminder of the difference Galgos del Sol makes in the lives of these dogs

I then had the privilege of volunteering with Galgos del Sol for a few months after graduating from university. During that time, I saw firsthand the compassion and dedication of the staff as they worked around the clock to heal these dogs, both physically and emotionally. The stories of resilience, love, and hope from the dogs they rescue are something I will never forget.

Running the London Marathon is no small feat, but it pales in comparison to the struggles these dogs face every day. They endure pain, abandonment, and mistreatment, yet many find the strength to heal, to trust again, and to love. I’m running for every dog that has been given a second chance and for every dog still waiting for theirs.
