Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Roseland Youth Sailing Trust is supporting fourteen young people on a voyage of a lifetime on a majestic Tall Ship. The voyage will be sailing from Falmouth, Cornwall aboard the Tall Ship Maybe aiming to dock in A Coruna in Spain as part of the Tall Ships Race on the 18th of August 2023. Tall Ship Maybe is an historic two masted sailing vessel, 24m in length.

I have been successful in my application for a place on this exciting 2023 voyage! Learning to sail helps young people work as a team, builds confidence and teaches skills that can help with finding their direction in life. RYST are a charity run solely by volunteers.

My place on the voyage has been sponsored by Classic Cottages, so a huge thanks to them for their generous support!

One place on the voyage is forward funded by the successful applicants who sailed on the Tall Ship Maybe last year. In my application I was asked if I would be willing to forward fundraise and I have challenged myself to swim out to, and around, Gull Rock in Portreath.

If you are willing and able to make a donation to help me raise money in support of the wonderful work the RYST does it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

During the adventure I will be trained how to rig the sails, tie knots, navigate at sea and steer the ship. There will be 14 of us aged 16-18 setting sail a little clueless and 4 trained crew.

Right now I feel I need this voyage and am so grateful for being offered a place to join the crew. It’s going to be such an amazing experience! Ten days of being totally absorbed in learning to sail; knots, navigation and night shifts! We’ll rely on team work, cook for ourselves and hopefully it’ll open my eyes to opportunities and career paths, as well as hopefully observing some of the wonderful wildlife to be seen in the ocean!

By donating you will be supporting future young people of Cornwall who may need a boost to their confidence or sailing experience to further their career options, while gaining valuable life skills.

For this I thank you.

Erin :)
