Emma Ayton is raising money for The Matthew22 Fund
In memory of Matthew Hollingworth

An 8-hour Continuous Football Match · 27 June 2025

Matthew22 issues grants to registered charitable organisations in memory of Matthew Ben Hollingworth, who passed from bone cancer in 2022 at the age of 22. We hope our funding will help others not have to endure the suffering we feel on a daily basis. Forward Through Adversity !

Story

On Friday 27th June, Ovingham Middle School will host a charity football match which is being organised by one of our year 6 pupils, Esme Ayton. The 7-a-side, football match will run continuously for 8 hours between 10am and 6pm, and everyone is welcome to get involved.

For a long time Esme has had a vision to organise a football event to raise money for charity, but a few months ago she was moved by a story which was featured on Michael McIntyre’s big show. Matthew Hollingworth (a twin, like Esme) sadly died at just 22 years of age from bone cancer in 2022. The feature on Michael McIntyre’s show (which you should watch if you haven’t seen it) featured Matthew’s wonderful father, Gary who (thanks to some help from Michael McIntyre) found himself unexpectedly playing competitive darts against Luke Littler. The segment was to thank and recognise Gary for all his fundraising efforts in memory of his beloved son and the creation of the Matthew22 Fund.
