Royal Parks Half Marathon 2024 · 13 October 2024 ·

A home is a human right. Yet, every day millions of people are being devastated by the housing emergency. Our amazing team of London Marathon runners are joining the fight to defend the right to a safe home. Because home is everything.

Story

I am running the Royal Parks Half Marathon on October 13th to support the vital services that Shelter provides. The housing crisis is a national emergency and right now, millions of people are trying to get by without a safe place to call home.

Witnessing an increasing number of homeless people on the streets of London, I am constantly reminded of the urgent need for charities such as Shelter. At the time of the Royal Parks Half Marathon, we will be approaching the cold, winter months, with freezing temperatures across the UK. In 2022, more than 1,313 people in the UK died whilst being homeless, an 85% increase on the numbers recorded by the study just three years earlier. Between October-December 2023, 4,389 people were recorded as rough sleeping in London.

I only started getting into running this year and can confidently say I cannot run a half marathon (YET). I will be training and holding myself accountable by tracking my runs on Strava, whilst following a running plan, which you can follow here.

Thanks so much in advance for any kind donations,

Esmée x
